Im studying for my english 10 finals and I lost my notes so I was wondering if someone knew where I clould find these terms.

Probably the most reliable way to find these out would be on the search engine "www.dictionary.com" its an online dictionary, will give you the most precise results.



Also try something like "www.ask.com" or "www.wikipedia.org" , they are more specialized rather than something like "yahoo" or "google"



And whoever said "try to read" (jen h, i believe) i say - shut up, that was totally uncalled for!

Internal conflict- character struggles within themself about ethics



setting- where, what time, when a story is set



tone- positive or negative, determines how you think about characters



direct/indirect charaterization- telling what a character is like, directly (he was tall, he was dark) or by another character (indirectly)



round character- many traits, interesting



flat character- one trait, usually used as a dramatic foil



point of view- how the story is written, first second or third person, who the narrator is



protagonist- the hero



antagonist- the bad guy



theme- what the story is about and how the author feels about that subject



irony- when something is the opposite of what you think it should be



verbal irony- saying something that's the opposite of what you mean; sarcasm



dramatic irony- you know something that the characters don't



simile- comparing two things using like or as



metaphore- comparing two unlike things by stating that one is the other



personification- giving inanimate objects human traits



end rhyme- rhymes at the ends of lines in poetry



alliteration- repition of similar sounds in words



internal rhyme- rhymes in a line



free verse- poetry that doesn't follow formal patterns
