Are there any settings I can adjust to make it more stable? Do I just need to roll back to the previous version?

That's exactly what happened with me. I switched to Mozilla Firefox. It's a lot more reliable and you can do lots of skins, add-ons, and games.

That's 'cuz IE7 is stupid. XD! Get Firefox if you want customization or Maxthon if you want a better IE replacement.
Why in the world would anyone run IE. Fire fox is the only way.
You may have too many add-ons associated with IE 7. Try resetting to default settings. Click on Tools in the upper left of your display. Then choose the Advanced Tab. Towards the bottom of the Advanced page look for and click on Reset Internet Explorer settings, and then click OK. Follow any remaining instructions. You will now have a "fresh" copy of IE 7 which will run smoother and more efficiently. Just remember that the more bells and whistles you add to IE 7 the slower it will run until it freezes up all together like in your case.
IE is crap. Most of Microsoft products are crap. Use something like Mozilla Firefox.
